Whitby Christmas Market

The first ever Whitby Christmas Market has generated a lot of excitement, but did it live up to the hype?

Whitby Christmas was a triumph!  Well at least for its first year. It was mostly local shops, selling things we can get all year round.  But thankfully some did think a little more imaginatively and sold wondeful chunky knits (I bought a lovely new scarf), Christmas decorations and cards.

Our son's favourite was the 'make your own candyfloss' from those folks at Humble Pie.  And my husband's fav was the local Whitby beer being sold by the Station Inn.

We even chose our evening restaurant visiting the market.  The newly refurbished White Horse and Griffin was advertising its restaurant and was on hand with menus and their reservation book.

I think Totally Local Whitby did an amazing job in organising this and I really hope it comes back every year.  In future years, hopefully they can attract more local food producers and craft stalls; so adding something additional to the Whitby shops represented.  The basic premise is 'local' and I think this makes it special and not another one of those identikit 'German' markets.
