Live like Royalty in Whitby

Paul and I treated ourselves to a wonderful champagne breakfast at The Marine in Whitby last weekend, and it got us thinking about what other luxury holiday things could we recommend to those wanting to add a bit of glamour to their hols.  We decided therefore to put together a list we have called 'Live like Royalty in Whitby'.....albeit without the smell of wet paint everywhere!!  Here are our ideas, but feel free to comment on things we have missed!

I will also shortly publish a list of fabulous things to do on days where you don't want to blow the budget, so please don't tell me off for focussing on things that cost money!  The aim is to provide ideas if you wanted a special event day for a birthday or anniversary for instance.

  • Champagne breakfast at The Marine.
    • We love their farmers salad, which reminds me of the lovely Lyonnaise salads I have had in France; with green leaves, bacon lardons, little bits of black pudding and topped off with a perfect runny poached egg.  Their eggs benedict was also great and they put the hollandaise sauce in a separate little jug for my husband, who doesn't like too much.Marine-breakfast
    • Children are welcome and their breakfast menu is diverse enough to suit any tastes.  Our son wasn't feeling up to much, so just asked for a plate of bread and butter.......they didn't disapoint and gave him a huge mound of bread and butter, with a pot of jam.
  • Luxury lunch ideas:
    • Good quality sandwiches and light meals at the Walrus and Carpenter (gluten free) or Marie Antionettes.
    • Excellent coffee and speciality teas at the Walrus mentioned above!
    • Teare Woods makes the best ice cream and cheesecakes in Whitby in our view and even has its own Jersey cows up on the Moors.
    • Becketts is our favourite for home made cakes!
  • Fantastic days out:
    • North York Moors Railway.  Pay the extra supplement to get 1st class travel in a private compartment.  We have had a great day where we caught the train at Whitby all the way to Pickering for lunch.  Then stopped off a few times on the way back, finally falling asleep on the last train home to Whitby.NYMR
    • Raithwaite Hall for fabulous luxury spa day. The only luxury spa retreat in and around Whitby and a really stunning location.  Check out their website to book and for special offers.
    • Flamingo Land. Not particularly luxury, but one of the more expensive days out near Whitby. The Tourist Information Centre often has tickets for 30% off, so worth checking before buying tickets.
    • Shopping in York, at its wide range of boutiques and big name high street stores.  A stunning city and lots of things to see and do.  Start early if you want to check out its main attractions like Yorvik Viking Experience, because queues can be long.
  • Afternoon Relaxation
    • Prosecco at the Moon and Sixpence overlooking the harbour is one of my personal favourites.  I love sitting outside for a spot of people watching.
  • Evening Dining
    • Greens is the best 'foodie' restaurant in town in our view and we love it for special occasions.  Book well in advance.  Prices are in the region of £40-50 per head including wine.
    • Harry's Bar for fantastic cocktails!
